This is definitely a great resource for the community. One of the few places where people, young and old, from all walks of life are able to access. Sad that our leaders don't recognize the importance of libraries. I visited today, and this is my input: Why can't the entire second floor be converted into a quiet area? Also, it lacked ventilation in there.

A Chinese mother and daughter were eating dumplings on the second floor, and the whole hall smelled of leeks. I didn't see any staff coming to stop it! Obviously, the library has a clear rule that you can't drink drinks or fast food. And this is just a decoration! So many security personnel are not managed, which is a waste of taxpayers' money! It sucks.

They did not have a working elevator! The bathrooms are atrocious. The librarians in the childrens section are not friendly. I cannot imagine the librarians has kids of her own or worked with kids. Kids who range from newborn to 12 years old tend to make noise, cry and be kids. My toddler fell asleep in his stroller and the librarian told me he had to sleep against the wall. I was not going to leave my baby there unattended, inane! So i ignored her. 20 minutes later, the librarian came up to me again angily saying she had already told me to leave my baby against the wall and i told her i know and that is ridiculous so i got up and left, she proceeds to follow me and want to act like a friend. My stroller was a tripping hazard and she wants to assure the safety of all kids and my sleeping baby is so cute, yada yada yada. The stroller was next to me, away from any aisles, walkways. If having a stroller next to me is a tripping hazard then all strollers in nyc should be banned. They also did not want parents on the carpeted section for the little kids. All parents had to be off the carpeted area. Insane! Especially its a toddler section, no mother would let their toddler play by themselves!! This is the best part, after we were told "no adults on the carpeted area" another librarian comes to the carpeted area asking all the kids where are your parents. You guys literally just said no adults here! Then the librarian tells us that children need to be accompanied at all times, you have to be responsible, you cannot let them play by themselves. Another mom left her bags on a chair, the librarian was so upset over this. "Chairs are for people not for your bags". The mom was 10 feet away checking out books. You also cannot use your cellphone on the carpeted area. I understand not talking on the phone are taking picture or videos. But not allowed to look at your phone for text messages or emails??? I gave them 2 stars because i do support public libraries. They are a great addition to any community providing free books, services and programs to everyone.

Came in here to take a break from walking around with my friends and wandered into the teen section to look at books. (I work at a bookstore and mainly read YA) and had a security guard tell me I wasn't allowed to browse the books and to put the book I was looking at down and leave immediately. Had to snap a pic of it quick so I can look it up later. I was quiet and didn't try to talk to anyone. I was just browsing the stacks. It was so rude but I hate making scenes so I just left.

I usually just come here to wind down and read on the side or wait for my company to meet up with me, so my review has nothing to do with the staff since I've never had to interact with them. This place is really helpful, being located in the middle of Flushing. It's always nice to come in and just read to my heart's content.

It is good for book material, but this is not a library for studying; even people working there are noisy. Surprisingly there's just one small room used as the quiet area (20 people capacity aprox.).

the staff was so rude !! I just cant stand the attitude and the way how she talked. ‘I’m the supervisor, I know the rules ‘ Yes you know everything that does NOT mean your customers know , tell them before you do anything, don’t brag about it . Overall, she is not helpful and doesn't know what she is talking about. i don’t live in this area , just had to use the computer in library while I running some errands . it never happened to me and my friend ,either at elmhurst library or New York public library with same circumstances.
